People in Hiroshima on Thursday are marking the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city.
木曜日、広島の人々は原爆の日記念式典を行った。
About 55,000 people packed Peace Memorial Park for the annual ceremony. Aging survivors of the atomic bomb, known as hibakusha, were among them. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and dignitaries from a record 100 countries also took part.
約5万5千人の人々が平和記念公園に記念式典のために集まった。被爆者として知られる原爆被災者たちも参加していました。阿部総理と、過去最多となる100か国の代表も参加した。

Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui placed a list of over 297,000 victims of the bombing inside a cenotaph. The list includes the names of more than 5,300 people who died or whose deaths as a result of the bombing were confirmed in the past year.
マツイカズミ広島知事は29万7千人を超える原爆被災者名簿を慰霊碑に納めた。名簿には、この一年に亡くなった原爆被災者5千3百人以上の名前も記載された。
The crowd observed a minute of silence at 8:15 AM -- the exact time the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6th, 1945.
集まった人々は8：15に一分間の黙とうをささげました。この時間は原爆が1945年8月6日に落とされた時間です。
Mayor Matsui read out a peace declaration.
マツイ知事は平和宣言を読み上げました。
He called nuclear weapons “an absolute evil" and “ultimate inhumanity." Matsui said now is the time to start taking action to abolish them.
彼は核爆弾を「絶対悪」「非人道の極み」とし、今こそこれらを廃絶する行動を取るべき時だとした。
The mayor stressed the need to create broadly versatile security systems that do not depend on military might.

Prime Minister Abe expressed his commitment to global dialogue. He said Japan will continue to seek cooperation from both nuclear and non-nuclear countries to do even more to achieve a world without nuclear weapons.
阿部首相は国際会談に向けての彼の公約を宣言しました。彼は、日本は核保有・非核保有国両国に、核を持たない世界の実現の協力を求め続けると宣言した。

今日はテレビをつけても、心がえぐられるような被害の状況が映し出されてばかりで、
原爆の愚かさ、恐ろしさ、被害にあわれた方の無念、苦しさ、やるせなさ、
悲しみ…いろんなものに押しつぶされそうになりました。
年をとればとるほど、原爆の被害にあわれた方などの手記、
写真を見たときの衝撃が大きくなっている気がします。
世界平和を、願います。
